Annual Summer Horse Camp Review


If you can’t wait to get out of school so you can spend your time with horses, then it’s time to plan for summer camp!  You can spend days, and even nights, following your passion to ride and learn about your equine friends. There are many summer horseback riding camps offered in the mid-south area. Following is a sampling of horse-related camp activities, listed in alphabetical order. Aintree Farms Pony Camp 2012 is a great place for summer fun in Germantown, TN. The camp is geared for the very beginner, advanced-beginner, and more, ages 4 and up. Session One is June 11-15; Session Two is July 9-13, both from 9:00 a.m. to 2: 00 p.m. Daily activities include an hour lesson with professional staff on safe school horses, horsey arts and crafts, and creative learning about horsemanship and barn etiquette. Campers can swim at the end of the day in the neighborhood pool. Camp week concludes with a horse show where campers can show off their new skills for their parents. Autumn Chase Farms 2012 summer camp is July 9-13.  Their rider education program spotlights safety, understanding, and fun. The Autumn Chase Farm camp will be held at Magnolia Manor Farm, 2600 Forest Hill Irene Rd. B & L Stables, Gadsden, TNB & L Stables Equestrian Summer Campis open to all level riders ages 7 to 16 years. Camp days are packed with horse-back riding lessons, many educational activities, and a lot of fun! If you have a love for horses, want to learn more about them, or want to improve your riding abilities, this is the camp for you! 2012 Summer Camp Dates: June 4-8, June 11-15, and June 25-29. Blue Ribbon Riding Academy, 439 E. Sowell Rd., Canton MS, 39046, offers the 2012 Campalooza for all ages 4 and up. Blue Ribbon camps are a fantastic way to expose children to horses, or sharpen existing riding skills. There’s lots of ride time at Campalooza and a horseshow every Friday! Falcon Ridge Farm, 22630 Highway 18 North, Toone, TN 38381. Dates are June 18-20, 9 am-3 pm and July 23-25, 9 am-3 pm.  The camp is available to those 6-16 years old. The focus of the camp is the basics of horsemanship, riding, and grooming.  They also have hayrides, arts and crafts, a petting zoo and much more.  Camps are $200.00 with a $50.00 deposit .   Contact 731-658-5200 or

Fisherville Farms, 1825 N. Collierville Arlington Road, Eads, TN 38028There are 8 weeks of 2012 Horse Camps which take place from 9 to 12 Monday through Friday. Unless otherwise specified camp is open to campers from ages 6 - 12.The cost is $150 with a $25 deposit due with application. Camp Dates For 2012: May 28-June 1, June 4-8, June 11-15, June 25-29, July 2-6, July 23-27, July 30-August3, August 6-10. Something new for 2012 is the Young Riders Camp during the first week of May for ages 3-6, with riding, crafts and games. All young riders will have an assistant assigned to them. Camp of the Rising Sun, French Camp, Mississippi: Ages 13-17 July 16-21.  Horse Campoffers a variety of horse activities and lessons for all levels of horse lovers! At horse camp, you can explore over 300 acres on horseback and learn horse-handling skills as well as how to vault—gymnastics on horseback! Horse Camp participants also enjoy meals on the trail, an overnighter, Bible studies, and other camp activities, such as crafts and time in Lake Anne. At the end of the week, parents and friends can watch as campers demonstrate their newly learned skills in their own Closing Ceremony rodeo! For me info go 547-6169

G and G Farms, Moscow, TN offers a fun Christian Horse Camp, with over 15 years experience in horsemanship. Offered to children ages 6 and up. Summer Camp meets May – Aug, Monday – Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday until 12 noon for $200 a week. Children bring their own lunch. We also offer overnight camp during the week Tuesday –Thursday , picking up on Friday, space limited. Overnight Weekend Camp, Fri 6pm. until Sunday 12:00 reservations only. Activities include bible study, prayer, bonfires, canoeing, swimming, fishing, trail riding and fundamentals on horsemanship for all types of riders from beginners to advanced. Holly Springs HorseCamp at YesterYear Lodge, is an overnight camp for girls for one exclusive week, July 2-9. The camp is held at the lodge near HollySprings, MS, just 45 minutes from Collierville.  Campers can stay in authentic 1800's log cabins or an Indian tipi and explore scenic HollySprings National Forest trails on horseback.  Yester Year Lodge is a re-creation of a frontier town typical of the early   1800's settlements of Mississippi. For reservations, call Terri Draper at 901-634-7484.

Horsemania Camp located at Coyote Run Arena in Mason, TN offers overnight camp for girls and day camp for girls and boys.  This is the perfect camp to introduce your child to Western Horsemanship. The lessons are taught by an HSA certified instructor with emphasis on horse safety, grooming and saddling.  Horsemania camp introduces your child to horseback riding and builds confidence in the saddle.  Weekly sessions start May 29 and continue through June and July.  Coyote Run Arena is a 74,000 sq. ft. indoor facility, so camps are never rained out.  Look at camp dates and register online at  or call Terri Draper at 901-634-7484.

Hunter’s Edge Stables at 5366 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, TN offers a variety of camps and clinics, open to children ages 6 and up who love horses.  Summer camp sessions are as follows: Session I, May 28-June 1; Session II, June 4-8; Session III, June 18-22; Session IV, July 9-14 and Session V, July 16-20. JacksonEquestrian Center,1875 Hwy 70 E, Jackson, TN 38305 offers camps that teach both English and Western disciplines, trail rides, and more. A Buckaroo Camp for young riders is half days June 4-8.  Total Horsemanship Camp is June 11-15 Hours are 8:00-3:00 Monday thru Friday. This week focuses on 3 separate groups of riders. Beginners learn the fundamentals of horsemanship and a secure seat. Intermediate Riders will tune up their equitation and start to specialize within their riding discipline. Advanced Riders will polish up on their riding technique and learn the value of flexion and collection. Advanced Horsemanship Camp is June 19-23. Maple Grove Farm, at 4961 Windsong Park Drive in Collierville, TN offers week-long Farm Camp for children ages 4-9 throughout June and July.  Daily activities are an enriching experiences in the outdoors, and include pony rides and petting farm, zip line, swimming pool and much more.  Camp instructors encourage each child's curiosity, creativity and capacity for personal growth in a non-denominational Christian atmosphere. Marigny Park Stables at 5875 Center Hill Rd. in Olive Branch, MS has summer camp for children ages 6-16. Camp I is June 11-15. Camp II is July 9-13. Cost is $325 (early bird special by 5/15 is $300). 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily, and features English hunter/jumper style riding, horse care, games, and crafts in a fun positive learning environment. Oak Hill Stables, at 670 County Road 101 in Oxford, MS offers 2012 Camp Oak Hill June 24-July 29. The Horseback Riding Camp is for girls 7-19 years of age, experienced to beginner riders. Choices are overnight camping in the bunkhouse and day only camp. Camp activities include riding, swimming, arts & crafts, field trips, and horseshoes. Oak View Stables at 13600 Looney Road, Olive Branch, MS offers a safe and fun introduction to horses in their 2012 Pony Pee Wee Camps for young riders aged 4-8. Sessions are June 11-15 and July 15-20. Regular Horsemanship Camps for ages 6-17 are June 18-22, June 25-29, and July 8-13, and are offered as half day and full day sessions. Old West Special Trails, at 12200 Macon Road (near Collierville-Arlington Road) in Fisherville, TN, offers summer day camps beginning May 29.  Camps are for ages 6 and up. Camps run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. with a new camp starting each week. Debbie Cooley teaches western horseback riding from beginner to advanced riders, with an emphasis on safety. Campers enjoy arena riding and trail riding in mornings. Afternoons include a variety of games and crafts. Showcase Equestrian Center, LLC, 755 Dent Rd., Eads, TN offers several weeks of summer camp, running from 9 am – 3 pm daily: June 4-8, June 11-15, June 18-22, June 25-29, July 9-13, July 16-20, July 23-27, and July 30-August 3. Campers have two riding sessions daily plus hands-on education with the horses during “Barn Talk” programs.  These programs explore the social behavior of horses, daily life and care, nutrition, safety, and responsibilities of having horses. Campers participate in individual and team exercises, skilled riding tasks, and mounted games. Parents are invited to attend a horse show and tour the facility on the last day of camp from 2:00-3:30pm. Open to children age 5 and up. Camp is $205/week, with discounts if paid by May 20. South Wind Stables, at 10181 State Line Road, Olive Branch, MS, runs 6 week-long Summer Camps for children ages 5 and up, beginning June 11 (July 4th week off) and ending July 23th. Camp hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Camps are filled with hunter jumper training, trail rides, stable games, and equestrian crafts. Campers learn grooming, bathing, tacking up horses, and plenty of horsemanship skills. Campers adopt a horse each week to ride every day. Beginners through intermediate riders. Trinity Farm, 10365 Monroe Lake, in Lakeland, TN, 38002 offers Session 1 Mini Camp May 29-31. Week-long camps are Session 2 June 25-29, Session 3 July 9-13, and Session 4 July 23-27. Camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily and includes riding lessons, horsemanship, arts and crafts, and water activities.  There is an end of the week horse show.  Cost is $375, with special times and cost for Mini Camp.  Child care is available for additional fee before and after camp.  Go to or check their Facebook page. Victory Ranch Summer Camp, at 4330 Mecklinberg, Bolivar, TN is a non-denominational Christian summer camp and retreat center. Victory Ranch hosts about 800 campers each summer and features top outdoor adventure areas and great accommodations. It is located on 550 acres of rolling hills and woodlands in Hardeman County. Camp includes horseback riding among a host of other activities. Seven summer camp sessions run May 29-July 21. Some camps for boys only, some for girls only, some coed. Winterview Farm, Summer Horsemanship Camps.  Beginner Camp sessions are:
May 28-June 1; June 4-8; June18-22; June 25-29; July 2-6.  Advanced camp sessions are: June-11-15; July 9-13. For advanced camp, riders must be involved in the farm’s lesson program or be pre-approved. Winterview Farm is a Hunter Jumper Facility at 140 Spring Road in Flora, Mississippi.  Summer camps offer a full spectrum of horsemanship activities from barn chores to participating in a horse show.   Highlights include trail ride, scavenger hunt, costume theme days, games and more. Each week concludes with an awards presentation and fun show for parents and   friends to attend.
