Ugly Christmas Sweaters Schooling Show

2017/01/04

“Everyone was in the Christmas spirit and lots of people dressed up for the show,” said organizer Elizabeth Clifton. Judge Jenni Hogan had 20 riders to judge at the Mid-South Dressage Academy’s Ugly Christmas Sweaters Schooling Show on Sunday, December 11, 2016. “The show was small, but nice,” Elizabeth continued. “About half the riders wore Christmas sweaters.” Classes included Intro Tests, Beginner Novice, Novice, Training, and First Level.

About the judge: Jenni Hogan has over 20 years of riding, training, and teaching experience. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from MTSU’s agriculture and equestrian science program. She is a USDF Certified Instructor through Second Level and is an “L” Program graduate judge with distinction. Jenni has earned USDF Bronze and Silver Medals on her horse that she trained “from the ground up.” She hails from Chapel Hill, Tennessee.

Debbie Hill Clinic

Preceding the schooling show, Mid-South Dressage Academy hosted a Debbie Hill Clinic on December 9-10, 2016. Debbie worked with ten riders each day at levels from beginner to Grand Prix. “Debbie was wonderful as always,” Elizabeth remarked. “She helped Jamie with Piaffe and Passage and helped me with my ‘zig-zags’ in canter.”

About the instructor: Debbie is a USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist.  She is an “L” Program graduate with distinction and a USDF Certified Associate Instructor. Her training facility, Red Horse Ridge near Huntsville, Alabama, offers training for riders and horses of all levels.

Debbie rode on the “A” hunter/jumper circuit as a child and junior, but later became interested in dressage and took a working student position at Crescent Moon Farm, owned by Eugene Abello and Brian MacMahon in Miami, Florida. In late 1996 she moved from Miami to Huntsville, Alabama, and began teaching and training full time in 2001. Debbie and her horse Cartier were USDF National Fourth Level Freestyle Open Champions in 2016.

Mid-South Dressage Academy is also important to Debbie’s Assistant Trainer Katie Stoy. At the November MDA show, Katie earned her USDF Gold Medal on the mare River Side Lady.
