The 36th annual Mid-South Quarter Horse Breeders Futurity and AQHA Show brought hundreds of handsome Quarter Horses to the Show Place Arena in Memphis, Tenn. on October 27-28, 2018. This year’s show garnered a record number of sponsors, including Platinum sponsor Swords Family Farms and some of the MSHR’s advertisers: Harvest Feed, Tennessee Equine Hospital, and Butch and Penny Robertson. Show organizer Penny Robertson was especially thankful for these sponsors, because their contributions helped MSQH Breeders to purchase beautiful headstalls, complete with their logo, to give to the Champions.
Judges Kelly Smith and Mark Baus chose the best horses of each class on Saturday, and that task fell to Billy Steele on Sunday.
The always lovely and organized AQHA Show Secretary Pat Kress said she really likes the new facility at Show Place. As of mid-day Saturday, Pat had recorded about 185 entries. The familiar voice of announcer Haskell Sheeks kept the classes running smoothly.
Lanny Ferguson parked one of his mobile tack stores behind the arena to supply any tack and equipment needs of the exhibitors. He’ll be in Tunica, MS in November for the Mid-South QHA show.
In addition to all the regular AQHA classes, the show offered several Futurity classes including MSQHBF 2&3-year-olds, Walk-Trot, Maturity Non-Pro and Maturity, Novice Amateur Western Pleasure, and Youth Western Pleasure. In each Futurity class, the sire and dam of the horses were recognized. The Maturity classes and Non-Pro Amateur were the largest classes of the show, Penny said. The show concluded with some fun, special classes: a Halloween Costume Class and a Dog Race, after the trail classes on Saturday.
