MTCC Driving Derby

Coming on the heels of the Nashoba Carriage Classic and Driving Derby, Middle Tennessee Carriage Club (MTCC) kept the driving momentum going with their own Driving Derby on Sunday afternoon, November 11, 2018 at Whip Hand Farm in Franklin, Tenn. The event had been scheduled for Saturday, but rain on Friday and freezing temps overnight into Saturday forced the club to push this event to Sunday afternoon. As it turned out, “We had about the best two hours of good weather on Sunday mid-day in a whole week of bad weather! The derby was good!” said Kate Bushman, MTCC President.

Training and Preliminary+ divisions were offered for horse, pony, and VSE (very small equine). “Despite the rescheduling and late-in-season date, there were seven carriages participating:  four Training level entries and three Preliminary+ entries.  The course consisted of ten pairs of cones, two marathon obstacles and a bridge. We had many fast times and lots of fun!” said Bushman. Placing is based on fastest time with penalties (seconds) added for knockdowns and course corrections.

In Training Pony division, Rebecca Jones placed first with Obi.

In Training Horse, Earl Burkett and Easton placed first. Clair Root and Canton’s by Design were second, with Emily Hennessy and Bliss WH, third.

In Preliminary+ Pony division, Joanna Wilburn and Rollingwoods Berry Last One were first, with Brenda Rachor coming in second with Bunny.

In Preliminary+ Horse division, Laura Lawson and Barney (KT Barnabus) were first.

MTCC and Nashoba Carriage Association (NCA) are teaming up to offer the 2018 Tennessee Carriage High Point Awards. This event was the final competition is a four-show series to award the 2018 Tennessee High Point Carriage Driving Championships.  Qualifying competitions were the May NCA Driving Derby, June MTCC Schooling Driving Event, the recent MTCC Driving Derby, and the October Derby and Working classes at the Nashoba Carriage Classic.
