Lucky Dog Barrel Race

Article & photos by Nancy Brannon

The first weekend in December (Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 2018) brought plenty of fast barrel racing action to the Show Place Arena in Memphis, Tenn. It was the last of the 2018 Lucky Dog Productions series, and was the second largest show of the year. [Texarkana was their biggest show of the year.] Huge gooseneck trailers filled three parking lots at the Show Place; stalls were full (685), with overflow stabling at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds. A major drawing card was RFCTV’s American Qualifier, which started at 10 p.m. Saturday night. Another was double points for the Better Barrel Races and the BBR Series Finale on Saturday. There was plenty of money to be won, with $20,700 total added money, including $10,000 Select Stallion Stakes Bonus Money; $9,000 added in the Open 4D; $6,500 Runnin’ With the Pack Side-pots; $5,000 added BBR Extra Side-pot; and $200 added in the Pony 4D.
