Murray IHSA Western Show

By Jenna Seal, MTSU Marketing Officer

The MTSU Equestrian team traveled to Murray, Kentucky on the first weekend of November (3-4), 2018 to compete at the second regular season IHSA show for the 2018-2019 season.  On Saturday, Open rider Mary Catherine Wade was first in the Reining and second in the Horsemanship to win High-Point Rider for the day. Jenna Seal followed close behind with a fourth in Reining and first in Horsemanship for the Reserve High-Point Rider title. Alumni rider Trevor Higgins was second in Reining and first in Horsemanship.

The rest of the day consisted of some great rides in Horsemanship, with Advanced rider Luke Brock winning his class, Novice riders Tricia Wingate, Taylor Meek, and Jordan Dillenbeck putting in excellent rides, as well as Jessi Schriver winning her huge class of Intermediate II.  Intermediate I rider Sarah Kozuszek won the class in her first time showing above the Walk/Trot level. Walk/Trot riders Kaylee Hayes, Anna Marie Goodwin, and Nikki Dyer rode very strong in their class, with Anna Marie receiving second place.  At the end of the day, the MTSU Equestrian Team was named High-Point Team.

The second day of the Murray IHSA show began again with Reining, where Jenna Seal was second behind Murray Open rider Travis Fortune, and Mary Catherine Wade finished fourth. Trevor Higgins was third in Alumni Reining.  Moving to Horsemanship, Mary Catherine Wade was again second, while Jenna Seal finished third.  In Alumni Horsemanship, Trevor finished sixth.  Jenna Seal again was Reserve High-Point Rider.

To finish the weekend, Luke Brock was second in Advanced Horsemanship; Taylor Meek won Novice Horsemanship, with Tricia Wingate, Jordan Dillenbeck and Zee Petree also placing well.  One of the highlights of the weekend came in the Intermediate II class, where nine of the MTSU Equestrian members competed.  In the Intermediate II, Lindsay Gilleland placed first, Abbey Hailey was second, and Jessi Schriver was third to sweep the class.  Intermediate I rider Sarah Kozuszek was second, and Walk/Trot riders Kaylee, Anna Marie, and Nikki again were very strong in their class.

There were three riders who “pointed out” of their divisions – Caroline Blackstone, Lindsay Gilleland, and Tricia Wingate.  The team also bid farewell to two riders, Anna Marie Goodwin and Luke Brock, who will be graduating in December.

The MTSU Equestrian Team was Reserve High-Point Team on Sunday, and they are currently ranked second in Zone 5 Region 1 IHSA.  Continuing in regular season competition, the MTSU Equestrian Team will host two IHSA shows in February, 2019 with a Hunt Seat show on February 9-10 and a Western show on February 15-17, which includes Western Regional competition.
