Royalty Sought By Mid-South Fair The 145th Mid-South Fair is now accepting applications for the 2001 Miss Mid-South Fair and the Miss Youth Personality contests. The winners of the two pageants will serve as goodwill representatives of the Mid-South Fair for the following year. Miss Mid-South Fair contestants must be single and between the ages of 18 and 24 as of September 1, 2001. The deadline for entry is Monday, August 20. A preliminary contest will be held Sunday, August 26 and the final contest will be Saturday, September 22, during the Mid-South Fair. Judging is based on appearance, intelligence, charm and personality. No talent competition is held. Over $1,000 in educational scholarships and prizes will be awarded this year. Applicants for the Miss Youth Personality contest must be single and between the ages of 14 and 17 as of September 1, 2001. Entry deadline is Monday, August 13. The preliminary contest will be held Sunday, August 19 and the final contest will be held Sunday, September 23, during the Mid-South Fair. Judging is based on speech, appearance and personality. No talent competition is held. Educational scholarships and prizes totaling over $2,500 will be awarded. These representatives will serve as hostesses to visiting dignitaries by conducting Fairground tours during the 2001 Fair. They will promote the Fair by making radio and television appearances as well as take part in Fair programs by awarding trophies and ribbons at various events. These representatives will have the opportunity to meet the Fair entertainers and participate in special events. As members of the "Fair Family", the royal representatives will make friends that will last a lifetime. Both contests will be held at the Creative Arts Center during the Fair, which runs September 20 through September 30.
