West Tennessee Miniature Horse Assoc. To Organize
Jo and Jim Buford of Humboldt, Tennessee are spearheading an effort to create a Miniature Horse Association for West Tennessee. The idea was spawned out of their own switch to miniatures and the realization that finding other miniature horse owners in this area was quite difficult.
The group began meeting in September at the Shoney's in Jackson, and has blossomed to over 20 attendees. At the upcoming meeting the second Saturday in February, they will hold an election of officers for the group.
The big anticipation for the WTMHA is the Spring, when they will finally be able to travel to one another's farms to visit, show and train. They expect to have a rotating schedule to visit a different farm each month.
Jo mentioned the many benefits of the group, particularly with advertising and showcasing their breed. "To share an advertisement with a group rather than pay for it yourself," is certainly much cheaper.
The WTMHA already has a tentative schedule of upcoming events, including, fun shows, a trainer from Kentucky to demonstrate miniature pulling techniques and training, as well as other trainers to demonstrate showing and handling. Of course parades will be part of the schedule too.
The West Tennessee Miniature Horse Association meets the second Saturday of each month at the Shoney's in Jackson at 6p.m. This month will include the election of officers. For more information contact Jo or Jim Buford at (731) 787-6249.
