Twins Compete For 1st Place In SASCA
Thirteen-year-old twins Joshua and Jessica Sims of Olive Branch, Mississippi have been competing with each other since birth. This year was no exception. As members of several local Saddle clubs, they have proven to be each other's toughest competition.
Both Joshua and Jessica are in the 8th grade at Olive Branch Middle School. They started riding at an early age, beginning with Lead In competition, and as they grew so did their skills and the desire to compete.
In the pony division, they each have won many awards such as gold buckles, high point jackets, a saddle, and even cash.
The dedication to show three nights a week has paid off for them this year. As members of Sunset Saddle club they finished the year at the top of the standings. Joshua finished 1st place in Jr. Barrels with MONEY CHICK and Jessica 2nd place with JESSE. Thursday nights were devoted to Ingrams Mill Saddle club, where Joshua placed 1st in Junior Barrels and 1st place in Junior Poles. Jessica finished the year in 5th place in Junior barrels and 3rd place in Junior Poles.
Showing SASCA on Saturday nights proved to be interesting all season. With each run, they traded places in the standings. Joshua would be leading the standings one week and Jessica taking the lead with her next run. They finished the year with 1-point difference. In the end, Jessica held onto 1st in Junior barrels and Joshua finished second.
They have accomplished more in their eight years of riding than many adults do in a lifetime. With their wins this year; they can add a few more gold buckles to the collection.
Of course none of this would be possible without the dedication, support, and sacrifices by their parents, Steve Sims and Lisa Lynch.
