MHJA Holiday Classic
The Mississippi Hunter Jumper Association held the annual Holiday Classic Horse Show December 7-8, 2013. Undaunted by the year’s first “real” winter weather, Mississippi Hunter Jumper members and other mid-south equestrians braved the elements to celebrate the 2013 horse show year with a horse show, banquet and annual awards presentation. The show was at the Canton Equine Center in Canton, MS.
This year’s show featured several special Holiday Jubilee Events: 2013 Medal Horse and Pony Medal Finals, $500 Short and Long Stirrup Hunter Classic, $500 Pony Hunter Classic, $500 Hopeful/Pony/Low Jumper Classic, $500 High/Child-Adult Jumper Classic, and the $2,500 Belle Haven Farm Holiday Special.
Champion and Reserve Champion in the divisions were:
Short and Long Stirrup (combined) Champion: Dreamcatcher owned and ridden by Kathryn Weir, Reserve: Cloud Nine, owned and ridden by Carolyn Miele.
Equitation 11 & Under Champion: Alana Vice riding her own Friendly; Reserve: Elle Lingle on Tuxedo.
Pre-Child/Adult Amateur Hunter Champion: In To, ridden by Sela McClelland and owned by Mississippi College Equestrian Team; Reserve: – Hunter, owned and ridden by Haley Hodges.
Modified Children/Adult Amateur Hunter Champion: Key West, owned and ridden by Priscilla O’Donnell; Reserve: Rivers Rhine, owned and ridden by Sally Randall.
Childrens/Adult Amateur Hunter Champion: My Silver Prosche, owed by Erica Chartier and ridden by Kristen Kulinski; Reserve: HTS Prankster, owned and ridden by Dallas Thomason.
Short and Long Stirrup Equitation Champion: Kathryn Weir on Dreamcatcher; Reserve (tie) – Anna Regan Mask and Patti Shoemaker’s For Pete’s Sake and Alana Vice on her own Friendly.
Pre-Child/Adult Amateur Equitation Champion: Liz Thompson on her Pac Man; Reserve: Alden McNamara riding her Mattie.
Childrens/Adult Amateur Equitation Champion: Taylor Ray; Reserve was Priscilla O’Donnell on Key West.
Low Schooling Jumper Champion: By the Bay, owned and ridden by Olivia Patch; Reserve was Toby Tyler, owned and ridden by Lauren Brown.
Hopeful Jumper Champion was Weber, owned and ridden by Victoria Barnes; Reserve was Winston, owned by Meredith Guider and ridden by Annie Sheen Kilic.
In the Heads Up Division, Champion in Trot X’s was Missy, owned and ridden by Ashley Manning; Reserve was Would Ya Please, ridden by Sophie Rhoden.
X to Vertical Champion (two sections): Missy, owned and ridden by Ashley Manning and Jig Time, ridden by Mary Petty Hardin; Reserve: Sweet Pea, ridden by Lucy Weir and Super Cooper, ridden by Chloe Reynolds.
Mini Champion was Jig Time and Mary Petty Hardin; Reserve was Super Cooper ridden by Chloe Reynolds.
The show was preceded by the MHJA 2013 Awards Banquet which included a raffle. The theme was “Cowboy Style” and held at the Culinary Cowboy. Blue Ribbon Riding Academy graciously sponsored the banquet.
Some of the year end High Point Championships were: Bailey Welch and her horse Landon in Junior Hunter; Dallas Thompson and HTS Prankster in Amateur-Owner Hunter; Taylor Ray on Sharp Dressed Man in Children’s Hunter; Kristen Kulinski and My Silver Porsche in Adult Amateur Hunter; Marion Welsh and Brown Eyed Joe in Modified Child/Adult Hunter; Betsey Munday and My American Cadet in Pre-Child/Adult Hunter; Haley Curry and Tea For Two in Large Pony Hunter; Maria Roberts and R’wood Piece of Cake in Small-Medium Pony Hunter; Charlotte Mangun and Oakhills Top Stuff in Short Stirrup Hunter. In the Equitation divisions, Champions were: Alden McInnis in Equitation 12-14; Isabella Rand in Equitation 15-17; Taylor Ray in Childrens Equitation; Dallas Tomason in Adult Amateur Equitation; and Sophie Zuckerman in Short Stirrup Equitation. Maria Roberts won the Pony Medal Championship. Isabella Rand won the Horse Medal for the year. In the Jumper division, Champion in Child-Adult Jumper was Charlotte Key with Make It Happen; in Pony Jumper, Olivia Patch and her Tea Biscuit were the Champions.
