Young Riders at GCHS

The young riders were well represented at the 67th annual Germantown Charity Horse Show. Exhibitors in the Lead Line class Wednesday June 4, 2014 were spit-shined, polished, groomed and braided to perfection. Tuesday night June 3, 2014 was the popular Rachael Smith Memorial Costume Class, with seven entries from area stables exhibiting a variety of themes and costumes. Other fun-filled activities included the stick horse race and face painting.
On Tuesday night June 3, 2014, the popular Rachael Smith Memorial Costume Class sported seven entries from area stables exhibiting a variety of themes and costumes. Straight from Man of La Mancha, the Lugars’ entry Donkey-Oite (Don Quixote), pun intended, won “Most Original” award. Roman Lugar rode Mr. Bubbles (donkey), supported by Andrea Lugar.
In anticipation of The Belmont, Nora Land’s entry “California Chrome,” aka Double Trouble, was ridden to the post by Kali Ryan.
Aintree Farm Stables’ entry, “Say Yes to the Dress” with horse Beanie Baby, won the “Most Beautiful” award.
Down home country folks from Jason Schnelle’s barn brought “Farmer Jason’s Vegetable Garden” to the arena. The entry won “Most Humorous,” with Jason’s folks dressed as various vegetables: Lauren White, Kiki Finneran, Avery Barber, Maddie Mueller, Ruby Morgan, Audrey Wright, William Stearns, Annle Brashear, Isabella Smith, and Mallory Patrick.
Turning back the clock to the 1950s and 60s, Oak Grove Hunt Club’s “Sock Hop” rocked around the arena to earn the “Most Authentic” award. At the sock hop were: Evelyn McGee riding Blackjack, Hannah Dunlap riding Gus, Will Dunlap riding Ted, Hailey Lovett riding Travis, and Georgia Heartswell riding Huckleberry Finn.
