The first weekend, September 6-7 is a benefit for the Junior League of Memphis Sustainers. The Junior League has a variety of community development and leadership projects. Find out more them at: www.jlmemphis.org.
The first weekend is also the 18th annual Chukkers for Charity Polo Match and Classic Car Show on September 6. Hosts are, once again, Lee Ann and Orrin Ingram at their beautiful Riverview Farm, 1475 Moran Road in Franklin, TN. Dress is “snappy summer casual” and gates open for tailgaters at 1:00 pm, at 2:00 pm for patrons. In addition to the polo match, which begins at 3:00 pm., the event includes the ever-popular car show & parade, the creative cabana decorating competition, petting zoo and stick horse race for the kids, fine dining, spirits, and entertainment. The match benefits the Rochelle Center, supporting people with disabilities, and Saddle Up! a therapeutic riding program. Special guest at Chukkers is Argentine polo player Ignacio Figueras, one of the top polo players in the world, as well as the face of the World of Polo fragrances. Full schedule and more information about Chukkers for Charity is available at: http://chukkersforcharity.net
The second weekend, September 14, is the Wings Polo Classic, benefit for Wings Cancer Foundation at Memphis Polo grounds. This event will benefit Wings’ programs designed to help underserved cancer survivors across the Mid-South by providing free lymphedema garments, breast prostheses and mastectomy supplies. Keri Burnett, Public Relations for Wings says, “Get your seersucker, sundresses and derby hats ready for one of the biggest parties of the year! This is where Pretty Woman meets the Kentucky Derby – Memphis style!” The theme is “Seersucker & Sundresses.” There will be a celebrity judged hat contest and cabana decorating contest, a silent auction, and, of course, exciting fast paced polo. Tickets and information on the Wings Polo Classic are available at: http://wingscancerfoundation.org/polo or call 901-322-2984.
September 20-21 are regular Memphis Polo Club matches, with opportunities available for sponsors or picnics.
Final matches for the Memphis Polo season are October 11-12 with the U.S. Polo Association’s Governor’s Cup circuit and a benefit for the Somerville Rotary Gift of Life. The Rotary’s Gift of Life project facilitates free medical services to children suffering from heart disease regardless of race, creed, sex or national origin and who otherwise lack access to such services.
