Wheelin’ With Nashoba
Nashoba Carriage Association brings back Robin Groves for a carriage Driving Clinic on September 20-21, 2014 at Kimberlin Farms in Olive Branch, MS. Robin is the USEF National Champion in Combined Driving, for the second time. Robin was a member of two US Combined Driving teams that competed at the World Single Championships held in Poland (2008) and Italy (2010). Robin and her husband Wilson Groves compete year round at the advanced level in combined driving. They own and operate R&W Horse drawn Services in Brownsville, Vermont.
Nashoba Carriage Classic
The clinic is timed as preparation for the 15th anniversary Nashoba Carriage Classic and Arena Driving Trial, held October 24-26 at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds. The show begins at noon on Friday with dressage and cones for the Arena Driving Trial, which is a short form of a Combined Driving Event (CDE). Friday night is the speed portion of the ADT or obstacle driving.
The Nashoba Carriage Classic Pleasure Show begins on Saturday morning with ring classes: turn-out, reinsmanship, and working classes. Cones classes, which are performed individually, are a favorite of competitors and allow them to show off their speed and accuracy.
Other favorite classes are the dog class and costume class. The dog class is carriage turn-out with a dog on board. The dog can’t be tied or forced into the carriage. He must be on his best behavior and look as cute as possible for the judge. The costume class allows a wide range of creativity, with horses, drivers, and carriages all dressed for a particular theme, often Halloween-related.
Sunday is Country Pleasure Drive day with a 3-4 km drive through McFadden Woods in Germantown, TN, allowing a stop for refreshments and judging. Lunch, evening dinners, and awards presentations round out the weekend.
