Hillsboro Hounds Opening Hunt

The Hillsboro Hounds hosted their Opening Meet and Blessing of the Hounds at the Happy Hill fixture, in the Lynnville-Waverly area, on the afternoon of November 2, 2013. Opening Meet marks the beginning of formal hunt season, which lasts through March. This fixture offers some panoramic views of riders and hounds over rolling terrain. An evening of dinner and dancing followed a great day of sport.

Hillsboro Hounds was established in 1932, and Huntsman Johnny Gray has been hunting the Hillsboro pack of crossbred hounds for over 30 years. In addition to foxhunting, Hillsboro is active in preserving the countryside, working with the Land Trust of Tennessee. The hunt club inaugurated the Iroquois Memorial Steeplechase in 1941 and members volunteer each year to keep the steeplechase going.

Here are few photos of the day’s action by William Kenner who likes to follow the Hillsboro pack on foot. He captures the bucolic beauty of the fixture and the magnificent turn out of the riders.
