From July 8-19, the Tunica Arena and Exposition Center was host to the 2015 (PHBA) Palomino Horse Breeders of America World Championship Show. Judges this year were: Margo Lea Ball – Fort Collins, CO; Darrell Bilke – Bethany, OK; Tony Burris – Summerfield, NC; Charlene Carter – Goodlettsville, TN; Rob Meneely – Conyers, GA; Bonnie Miller – Morrisville, NY; Curt Summers – Green Valley, AZ; and Maryann Willoughby – Hugoton, KS. The PHBA World Championship Horse Show is PHBA’s biggest yearly event, with nearly 500 horses competing in World Championship Classes, futurities, and maturities. PHBA awards more than $100,000 in cash and prizes to equine athletes from all over the United States, Mexico and Canada.

The first week of the show, July 8-11, is solely devoted to young exhibitors – the PHBA Youth World Championship Show. The Youth World Championship Horse Show is the beginning of PHBA’s international activities.  Awarding multiple sets of national points, the event allows the youth to compete in a non-qualifying show. Young riders, under the age of 18, exhibit in hunt seat classes, barrel racing, poles, horsemanship and showmanship classes, lead line, western pleasure, reining, ranch riding, and trail classes. There’s even a stick horse class for the youngest soon-to-be riders.

At the end of the show on Saturday, the top awards are given – the Golden Horse winners. Equally important is theMax Eisenberg Sportsmanship Award. This year’s winnerwas Andrea Mairs of Keene, California.
