The first Tennessee High School Rodeo of the 2015-2016 season got off to a rousing start the last weekend of the Delta Fair, Saturday and Sunday, September 12-13, 2015. The weekend had perfect fall weather, and plenty of fair-goers got to stop by to see the high school rodeo athletes in action.
Saturday night’s action started with bareback bronc riding, followed by one saddle bronc rider, Preston Davidson of Dickson, TN. Carson Wulfert of Lexington, TN won the bareback bronc riding on Saturday night, and Steven Hopper won the bareback event on Sunday.
In Saturday’s barrel racing, it was Sydni Cunningham of Mason, TN at the top with the fastest time of 14.891. On Sunday, Sadie Wolaver of Fayetteville, TN was the fastest, with a time of 14.728; Sydni Cunningham was second, at 14.749.
In Saturday’s breakaway roping, Jaide Ellick of Rogersville, TN was the best with a time of 2.920. On Sunday, Kyla Matthews of Athens, TN was the best, roping in a time of 2.910.
In Saturday’s bull riding, the bulls did not score a shut-out. Three cowboys rode the allotted time, with La-Kota Luna of Smithville, TN winning, Josh Norman of Poplar Bluff, TN in second, and Dustyn Thomas of Buchanan, TN in third. In Sunday’s bull riding, Daniel Carter of Bells, TN scored the highest.
In Saturday’s calf roping, David Holt of Byhalia, MS was the high scorer. On Sunday, Cole Walker of Cookeville, TN took top honors. Bubba Allison of Viola was second both days.
On both Saturday’s and Sunday’s goat tying, Jaide Ellick of Rogersville, TN was the fastest, with a time of 9.117 on Saturday and 7.980 on Sunday.
In pole bending, Karlee Sanders of Spring Hill, TN won on Saturday with a time of 20.884. Kyla Matthews of Athens, TN was Sunday’s winner with a time of 20.304.
In steer wrestling, no cowboy was able to make the score on Saturday, but on Sunday, Garner Holcomb of Houlka, MS had a time of 25.740 for the win.
On Saturday, David Holt of Byhalia, MS and Cole Walker of Cookeville, TN were the team roping winners with a time of 8.550. On Sunday, the top team ropers were Madison Steele of Albertville, TN and Tyler Brown of Shelbyville, TN with a time of 13.570.
