Tennessee Little Britches Rodeo

By Tracy McPherson

On November 7-8, 2015 Barnfly Farms in Springfield, TN hosted the biggest TLBRA rodeo since the association began just three years ago.  There were approximately 400 entries over the weekend, with competitors from seven different states represented at the rodeo.

This first November weekend kicked off the 2016 season for the TLBRA.  “It was great to see so many new and familiar faces,” said organizer Tracy McPherson. “The tremendous growth can be attributed to our rodeo families and the support of our generous sponsors - Barnfly Farms, Boot Barn, NWCHA, A&T Crazy Buckers and the Robertson - Cheatham County Co-Op.  Our rodeo parents are willing to step in and help when needed – whether it is holding goats, opening gates, stretching barriers, or many other tasks.

“We have some very talented kids in all of our age groups, which range from 5-18 years of age. Each works hard to support each other and help one another improve. Our kids compete in all rodeo events, including breakaway roping, tie down roping, dally ribbon roping, team roping, steer wrestling, poles, barrels, trail course, flag racing, goat tying, and bull riding. We even have mutton bustin' for our younger kids.  Although mutton bustin' is not an NLBRA sanctioned event, it sure is fun for the kids!

“At this weekend’s rodeo, we also announced our newly crowned royalty.  Miss Caroline Terry (senior girl division) is the TLBRA Queen this season and Miss Jaci Baker (Junior girl division) is the TLBRA Princess.  These two young ladies rodeo hard, are positive role models in the community, and maintain excellent grades in school. We are happy to have them represent the TLBRA this season.”
