Art By Ria

Those attending the St. Jude Barrel Jam in February no doubt saw the landscape paintings at the booth Art By Ria.  The works are by 28-year-old Maria Young from Byhalia, MIssissippi. Ria says, “I am a full time artist. I spend most of my time drawing, painting, creating, playing guitar, and taking care of my two boys.

“My work consists mainly of portraits, landscape paintings, and pyrography (aka wood burning). I use a wide range of media including watercolor, oil, and acrylic paint, charcoal, graphite, colored pencils, coffee, wood burner, and even crayons on occasion. I do portraits of people as well as animals. I can paint on almost any surface. I’ve painted on walls, rocks, glass, ceramic vases, concrete statues, wood of all types, saws, and even pumpkins. I have used the pyrography tool on leather, boots, belts, and any variations of wood. I’m not limited by any means, and it is my passion to create art!”

Here are some photos of Ria’s work that were on display at the Barrel Jam, and, of course, one of Ria at work. See more of her work on facebook under “Art ByRia.”
