Both UT Martin Rodeo Squads Finish in TopThree At Arkansas-Monticello
Monticello, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin had a pair of great performances from its teams at Arkansas-Monticello, March 28-30, 2019, as the men’s squad equaled a season-high with 600 points and the women’s team racked up its second-most points (290) of the season.
The UT Martin men’s team placed second in the team standings, while the women’s squad came in third place. Missouri Valley College (690 points) and East Mississippi Community College (420) finished atop the men’s and women’s standings, respectively.
Hunter Green paced four UT Martin cowboys who earned points in bareback riding. Green nearly swept top honors across the board, placing first in average (138), splitting first in the short go (71), and finishing second in the opening round (67). Bryce Sifford also performed well, winning the first go (76), placing fifth in the short round (54), and fourth in average (130). UT Martin also received points from Stetson Bierman (64, fourth place in the short round) and Ridge Palmer (62, fourth place in the opening go).
In calf roping, Chase Thrasher put together a terrific all-around performance. The sophomore out of Columbia, Tenn. finished first in average (18.4), first in the second round (9.4), and third in the opening go (9.0). He was joined by Quentin Sawyer, who recorded fifth-place finishes in average (27.3) and in the second round (16.7).
Jayci Braudrick earned points in all three phases for UT Martin in breakaway roping. She split third in the first round (2.4), and came in fifth in both the short go (12.5) and in average (14.9).
Robert Haley was one of only three cowboys in the entire field to accrue points in saddle bronc riding as his score of 63 split second in the short round.
A trio of UT Martin cowboys posted points in steer wrestling, guided by Thrasher. His 4.5 in the second round was good enough for second place, while his 9.9 average was the third-best time in the field. Craig Parks and Ross Mitchell each notched points in all three phases: Parks finished fourth in average (10.2), fifth in the short round (5.2) and sixth in the opening go (5.0), while Mitchell placed third in the first round (4.4) and sixth in both the short go (6.4) and average (10.8).
Kailey Schmidt came in third place in both average (17) and in the short round (8.3) of the goat tying event. Ashley Brooks also generated points for UT Martin with a time of 8.6 seconds in the first round to finish sixth.
In team roping, Sawyer and Will McCraw led the charge for UT Martin as the duo placed second in average (16.8), third in the first go (8.2), and fourth in the short round (8.6). Additionally, the tandem of Spencer Meyer and Cody Hogan produced sixth-place finishes in both the second round (15.9) and in average (29.7).
UT Martin received several notable performances in barrel racing. Casey Allen finished second in average (31.5) and in the first round (15.62), while placing fourth in the short go (15.88). Raegan Taylor provided a consistent effort as she finished in third place in all three phases (31.51 average, 15.67 first go, 15.84 short round). Brooks also contributed points, as she split sixth with a time of 15.89 seconds in the opening round.
