ExEL Inaugural Show
All indications are that the new hunter/jumper schooling show series in Germantown, Tennessee excelled at its inaugural show. An acronym for Experience Equestrian League, the first ExEL schooling show premiered at the Germantown Charity Horse Show grounds on the last weekend in June 28-29, 2019. The whole idea of the show was to provide an opportunity for green horses and riders new to showing to get some solid horse show experience – and to have fun doing it. There were plenty of courses with lower fences, starting with cavaletti and cross rails, and increasing to 3 feet for Open Jumper. There were Horse and Pony Medal classes, an Open Equitation Challenge, and fun classes like Ride-A-Buck and Gambler’s Choice. The show attracted 78 horses, several with multiple riders.
Friday evening featured the Gambler’s Choice, won by Sela Ward and QT Pie, and Open Equitation Challenge, won by Ava Brewer and Al Copony. Hospitality was provided by Central BBQ. Classes started early, at 8:00 a.m., on Saturday with Pony Hunter classes in the South Ring and Cavaletti and Cross Rails in the North Ring. A highlight of Saturday’s show was the late afternoon Open Hunter Derby in the combined North and South Rings, which attracted 12 entries. Ann Edgmon and Dessa won the class.
The show offered several first-time freebies: free horse stalls and tack stalls, a free T-shirt, and treats for the horses.
