A tradition since 1919, the 90th annual Benton County Fair ran September 5-7, 2019 in Ashland, Mississippi. Friday September 6 was School Day and activities included the Pig Scramble at 6 p.m. and Ranch Rodeo at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the Youth Rodeo started the day at 10 a.m. The afternoon’s events included Archery Competition, Pony Pulling, Barrel Racing, and Team Roping. The fair has been a Benton County tradition since 1929.

Parents lined the rail at the Benton County Agricenter on Friday September 6, 2019, to watch as coveys of youngsters scrambled after squealing swine.  There were plenty of laughs as the kids chased and dove in the red dirt to wrangle the pigs. A couple of the pigs gave them runs for their money as they zigged and zagged, all over the red dirt covered floor. Four age groups were given two chances to catch the pigs provided by Brandon Allen-Allen Farms, Lamar, Mississippi.
After the dirt covered kids left the arena floor, the Ranch Rodeo sponsored by Triple R Cattle Company and Hart Productions was underway.  The big boys took their turn and getting red dirt stained as they competed in three events: Double Mugging, Branding, and Trailer Loading.  There were eight teams competing:  J&B Cattle Co., Benchwarmers, Super Punchers, Berry Farms, Triple R Cattle Co., Cow Pokes, BB&R Farms, and Regulators.
The Cow Pokes team won first in every event with times of: Double Mugging 1.05, Branding .33, Trailer Loading .47.  The Cow Pokes – Dan Twisdale, Shawn Turner, Cody Burrows, and Brandon Crenshaw – then dominated the Short Round: Penning, Trailer Loading and Single Mugging, with a time of 1.34.

The last of Triple R Cattle Company’s “Triple R Super 7” Ranch Rodeo series are: September 21, 2019 at Marshall County Agri Center; October 12, 2019 in Halls, TN; and the Finals, November 2-3, 2019 at Marshall County Agri Center.

Triple R Cattle Company and Hart Productions would like to thank the Benton County Fair Board for inviting them and hosting the event, and the Benton County 4-H for selling concessions during the event.
