Chukkers for Charity
The 23rd annual Chukkers for Charity event was hosted by Lee Ann and Orrin Ingram at their Riverview Farm in Franklin, Tenn. on Saturday September 7, 2019. The theme for this year’s event, “Divots and Downton,” celebrated PBS’s acclaimed British historical drama, Downton Abbey. The annual polo match raises funds for Rochelle Center and Saddle Up! Last year the event raised $261,000 for charity, and this year the event raised nearly $200,000 for the charities.
This year’s competing teams were the USA vs. the British Commonwealth. The Ironhorse Farms team (USA) included Tim Kyne, Aaron Barrett, Wes Finlayson, and Stevie Orthwein. The Colonial Hill Farm team (British Commonwealth) included Lexie Armstrong, Zulu Scott-Barnes, Max Secunda, and Whistle Uys.
John and Crispin Menefee’s Ironhorse Farms and Eleanor Menefee Parkes’ Colonial Hill Farm were team sponsors, creating a bit of sibling rivalry, as the opposing farm owners John and Eleanor are brother and sister. At the end of the day, Team Ironhorse Farms prevailed with a score of 6-5 and Stevie Orthwein was named the most valuable player.
Attendees enjoyed a gorgeous day of polo along with a classic car show, cabana decorating contest, silent auction, and a petting zoo.
Price of admission to the event ranged from $2500/table of 10 for Fieldside Patron tables and $1,750/table of 10 for Standard Patron tables, or $175/individual ticket. Tailgating cabanas were $300, which included six wristband admissions; two additional wristbands were available for $50/each. Patrons were served by The Daily Dish, with a menu featuring London chicken, classic English pork roast, buttered peas and carrots, and roasted English style potatoes.
