By Ryne Rickman

Martin, Tenn. – For the second straight semester, the University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes have shattered a record for Grade Point Average, as the Skyhawks combined for a 3.28 GPA this past fall.

Overall, 280 UT Martin student-athletes garnered Athletic Director’s Honor Roll status for the Fall 2020 semester, recognizing those who compile at least a 3.0 GPA. Overall, 784 Skyhawk student-athletes have earned Athletic Director’s Honor Roll accolades since the list was initiated in the Fall of 2019.

“Our student-athletes continue to amaze me with another record-setting semester in the classroom,” UT Martin athletic director Kurt McGuffin said. “As we navigate through the daily challenges that this year has presented, our student-athletes powered through and carried over their academic success from last spring. We send out congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches and athletic academic staff for their leadership this fall.”

A total of 59 Skyhawks accumulated a perfect 4.0 Grade Point Average during the 2020 fall semester. The UT Martin equestrian squad boasted the most 4.0 GPA student-athletes with 11, as all 14 of the Skyhawk sports programs produced at least one student-athlete with an unblemished 4.0 GPA.

The UT Martin football team led with the most Athletic Director’s Honor Roll recipients, placing 45 student-athletes on the prestigious list. Equestrian (38), cross country/track and field (32), baseball (30) and rodeo (27) rounded out the top-five Skyhawk programs.

Eleven UT Martin sport programs tallied a team GPA at 3.0 or higher this past semester.
