ExEL Show

Article & photos by Nancy Brannon

The ExEL September Spectacular horse show at the GCHS Arena in Germantown, Tenn. saw ExELlent weather for the last weekend in September, 25-26, 2021. Sunny and 80 degrees is pretty much ideal fall weather for the mid-south. The show offered something for every level of rider from beginners over cross-rails to more advanced hunters and jumpers. Offer something free and will they come? Of course! Stalls were free and nearly 150 competitors were entered for the show. Highlights of the show were the $500 Hunter Derby, the $500 Equitation Challenge, and the $250 Gamblers’ Choice.

Mary Grayson Fauser and Captivate captivated the judge’s eye to win the $500 Hunter Derby out of 36 entries. Turner Kitchens and her The Roan Ranger were second.

Zoe Marshall and Parade Marshal (pun intended) rode to the top over 27 entries in the $500 Equitation Championship. Mimi Hickerson and Saint Loise were second.

Fifteen riders vied to collect the most points in the $250 Gamblers Choice. Ashley Raley and her Axel Rose bested the rest for the win. Danielle Tursky and her Windsor were second.
