Volunteer Ranch Horse Show
While it may sound ironic, the Volunteer Ranch Horse Association (VolRHA) came to the Memphis, Tenn. area to “Beat the Heat” on September 18-19, 2021. The area is known for its hot, humid weather, but fall weather was definitely in place this weekend. However, the remnants of Hurricane Nicholas hit the area on Saturday morning, bringing showers all morning long. But that presented no problem, since the show utilized both the covered outdoor arena and the indoor arena at the Show Place Arena in Cordova, Tenn.
Show secretary Katie Hutton said this was one of their largest shows this season, with 125 horses entered to show over the weekend.
On Saturday, Herd Work, Cutting, Ranch Riding and Trail classes kept the covered outdoor pen busy, while the Hackamore and Bridle divisions got underway in the indoor arena. Later were the Working Cow Horse, Boxing, and Youth classes.
Sunday’s show started early indoors with the Derby classes and the Bridle Spectacular. After these two special divisions, classes got underway outdoors with Showmanship, proceeded to the Conformation classes, and finished with Ranch Reining. Indoors, classes continued with Ranch Reining, Ranch Cow Work, moving to AQHA Conformation classes and NRCHA classes.
