Local Riders Qualify For USPC Championships West Tennessee Pony Club has returned from its annual trip to the MidSouth Regional Mega Rally at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, KY. This year, the club sent 21 members to compete in four different rallies. Four riders qualified for USPC National Championships to be held in Kentucky in August. Tara Krisle, riding COPPERFIELD, qualified to represent the MidSouth Region in show jumping competition by finishing with the highest score in the Rally. Michele Kamp and GIRRAFFE will join Tara in Lexington. Jessica Rachor will ride ROLLINGWOODS WIND CHIMES, and Rachel Smith will ride SHERIDAN in the Combined Training Championships. Pony Club Rallies are competitions in which young riders are judged not only on their riding performance, but also on their ability to care for their horses and equipment as well as written tests of knowledge. Two teams, each made up of four riders and a horse manager competed in the Show Jumping Rally on June 20. The team of Ashley Gruenewald, Courtney Gruenewald, Danielle Prachel, Michele Kamp and horse manager Caitlin Carlson finished in first place in both riding and horse management with individual awards to Michele 2nd, Ashley 2nd, Courtney 3rd and Danielle 3rd in their divisions. The team of Tara Krisle, Alex King, Jordan Oldham, Jessica Rachor and horse manager Rachel Carlson finished in fifth place in their division with Jordan 6th, Alex 4th, Jessica 2nd and Tara in first place with the highest score in all divisions. Riding for Dressage Rally was done on Thursday, June 21. Competing were Jessica Gaston, Jordan Oldham, Sarah Wolf and horse manager Alex King. The team finished fifth, overall with Sarah Wolf placing 10th individually. Jessica Gaston's musical freestyle earned her fifth place. Sarah Wolf was awarded the Katherine E. Stephens Memorial Trophy for the High Point Musical Freestyle. A separate combined training rally was held for D level pony clubbers. All riding was done on Friday. The D-2 team, made up of Caitlin Carlson, August Marshall, Laura Meyer and horse manager Rachel Carlson, along with a scramble team member from Ohio, who were all competing at their first rally, finished in first place in both overall ranking and horse management. Laura Meyer received the individual first place award and August Marshall finished third individually. The D-2 team of Megan House, Alex King, Jordan Oldham, Chelsey Vance and horse manager Jessica Gaston came in sixth in the team competition. Jackie Gaston and Courtney Gruenewald, D-3 riders from West Tennessee, joined with two riders from Possom Trot Pony Club in southern Indiana and were very successful in their efforts. The team was second in overall competition and second in horse management. Jackie Gaston earned third place individually. Saturday and Sunday, riding competition was held for Beginner Novice, Novice and Training levels. Michele Kamp, Jessica Rachor and Meredith Wilkes represented West Tennessee at Training level along with horse manager Tara Krisle. The team finished fourth in the Training division with Jessica finishing 2nd and Michele 9th. Danielle Prachel and Rachel Smith joined with riders from Paducah, Kentucky to ride as a team in the Novice division. Their team finished third overall and second in horse management, and Rachel finishing 5th individually. Eleanor Docauer, Ashley Gruenewald and horse manager Jon Kamp joined with riders from Alabama to compete in the Beginner Novice division. The team finished in sixth place.
