Talmadge Green Promotes Barrel Racing by Kevin DeBusk NBHA founder Talmadge Green is excited about the future of barrel racing in the Mid-South. Green and Bill Abel were in Tunica, Mississippi August 24-26 presenting the first annual 4-D blowout. Green is also bringing his School of Champions to Hernando, Mississippi September 14-16. "We were pleased," Green said after Sundays final round. "We got a lot of support from riders. We had riders from Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas, Oklahoma, Georgia.... "We had right at a thousand twenty entries and paid out in excess of fifty thousand dollars. A lot of people left with some money. If nothing happens next year we should double." So why Mississippi? "The NBHA is one of the fastest growing equine associations in the United States," he reported. "We have twenty-two thousand members. "We have our Mid-South National Championships, in Memphis, Tennessee coming up and just finished holding our Youth World Finals in Jackson, Mississippi. "Mississippi is strong in barrel racing. Right now Mississippi is the third largest state membership wise in the NBHA." He continued saying the strength of the Mid-South was proven with the number of participants which showed up on a spur of the moment type deal. Promoting the association isn't the only thing Green works on. He's also active in teaching riders. "I do schools all over," he said. "The last couple of years I took off because I was doing so much with the NBHA. "It's a lot of one on one. What we try to do is further peoples skills and make them better barrel racers. It's for any stage and any age rider." For more information on this event you can call Bramlett arena at (662) 429-0553 (Nights) or 662-429-4475 (Days).
