Kara Brown Crowned Miss Rodeo America 2002 Miss Brown, a resident of Athens, TX is the forty-seventh young lady to earn the distinct honor of becoming Miss Rodeo America. A 23 year-old senior at Texas A & M University, Kara is working on a degree in biomedical science and aspires to become a physical therapist. Kara was crowned Miss Rodeo Texas in June of 2001 and won the coveted title of Miss Rodeo America 2002 on December 8, 2001 in Las Vegas. Kara was chosen from a field of 30 exceptional contestants each representing their respective states at the 47th Annual Miss Rodeo America Pageant. These young ladies, ranging in age from 18 to 24, take to heart the job of representing America's number one sport. They are first cowgirls and athletes in their right who have the knowledge of their sport and the gift of communication to educate the public and raise the awareness level about professional rodeo and its related industries such as agriculture, western apparel and entertainment. "Being named Miss Rodeo America is amazing. It's almost unreal," Kara stated during a post-pageant media conference. "I'm looking forward to meeting people across the country who perhaps know nothing about rodeo and encourage them to become real fans. Plus, I'd like them to see the real benefits of the sport with regard to family and western heritage. I am so proud to represent these ideals. Rodeo provides the opportunity for all different walks of life, shapes, sizes and ages to excel on a professional level." Among Kara's awards is a $10,000 educational scholarship to the college or university of her choice, a wardrobe of Wrangler jeans, Justin boots, Resistol hats, a silver trimmed Saddle from Court's Saddlery, her official Buckle from Montana Silversmiths and she will wear the beautiful Black Hills Gold tiara provided by Landstrom's Original Black Hills Gold Creations. She will travel over 100,000 miles during her reign all across the country.
