April 20, 2002 Illinois State Horse Judges Seminar Features Dr. Doyle Meadows The 2002 Illinois State Horse Judges Seminar has been scheduled for April 20 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the University of Illinois Stock Pavilion at 1402 W. Pennsylvania Ave. in Urbana. This seminar is open to all youth and open horse show judges, potential judges, exhibitors and spectators of horse events. It is designed to encourage uniform standards for judging and exhibiting horses at Illinois youth and open shows, and to yield a directory of judges for show committees. It will cover criteria for judging halter, showmanship, horsemanship, hunt seat equitation, reining, Western pleasure, Western riding and gaited horse classes. Fees for this seminar are $15 for youth (under 18 years), $25 for adults and $40 for adults wishing to take the written and live judging exam for listing in the Illinois Horse Judge's Directory. The clinician for 2002 is the well-respected horse judge, Dr. Doyle Meadows of the University of Tennessee at Nashville. A multi-breed horse specialist and a professional judge for sixteen years, Dr. Meadows has judged throughout the U.S. as well as Canada, Uruguay, Holland, Mexico and France. He was selected to judge the 1991 American Quarter Horse Association Youth World Championship Show held in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Meadows was selected to present "judging update" seminars to licensed Tennessee Walking Horse Judges from 1995-1997. He has also been an official at the Tennessee Walking Horse Judge's Applicant School for several years. He has judged Arabians, Tennessee Walking Horses, Racking Horses, Draft and Quarter Horses at several state fairs. Dr. Meadows has also conducted workshops for Spotted Saddle Horse and Racking Horse judges. Dr. Meadows has been extremely active in teaching youth to ride and judge horses. His judging teams -- both collegiate and youth -- have won many national horse judging titles, including the Morgan Horse Judging Contest, American Quarter Horse Congress, AQHA World Show, American Paint Horse Nationals, Pinto Nationals and a host of other regional horse judging contests. He was the first president of the National Horse Judging Team Coaches Association and was honored by that association as "Outstanding Horse Industry Leader" in 1987. Registration materials may be obtained from: Kevin H. Kline, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 388 Animal Science Lab, 1207 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana, IL 61801, E-mail:
