Show Set For October 25-27 At Show Place Arena Twentieth Anniversary Of Mid-South Quarter Horse Breeders MSQHBF will celebrate 20 years at this Fall's show as a tri state quarter horse breeders group Formed in 1982 by a small group of area breeders in 1982, membership now includes 69 stallions in select counties in Tennessee, Mississippi and Arkansas. The October 25-27 event at Shelby Farms Show Place Arena this year will feature a split combine show schedule. Anyone that has ever attended the Futurity knows that the huge classes mean long hours. Show management hopes this schedule will serve to make everyone's weekend much easier. Futurity information is being mailed out mid August and those interested are encouraged to contact a MSQHBF member or use the group's web site: or make requests by email: Futurity payments are due in full on or before October 1. Friday's show schedule will feature 82 classes with Saturday and Sunday split. Judges for this year's show are Larry Corbin of Kentucky; Scott Buckwalter of Pennsylvania and Chris Baldwin of Michigan. AQHA Show Secretary is Pat Kress of Knoxville. NEW AUCTION INCENTIVE At the February 24 Annual meeting, MSQHBF members elected to revise the Auction Incentive Award beginning this year that will allow those purchasing fees to nominate the foal resulting as a weanling OR at Two Year Olds. Certificates will be issued with each service that is sold and will serve as the only acceptable form of documentation to receive this benefit. "It was felt that this would encourage those breeding for pleasure horses to participate" said Chairman Dianne Higgs of Millington. This program will be retroactive back to breeding fees purchased in 1998 (this year's two year olds). MSQHBF will award $1,000 to both the high point weanling and 2 year old snaffle bit horse whose fee was purchased at a MSQHBF auction. Entries in weanling or 2 Y.O Snaffle Bit must be nominated on or before the October 1 futurity payment due date. Only Auction weanlings receive a free entry as part of the purchase incentive. If you purchased a breeding fee at the 1998 MSQHBF auction and would like to receive your certificate, contact Dianne Higgs at (901) 876-5221. SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE The favorites will be back, including the 10 & Under Walk Trot with the prize being a show saddle and Open Walk Trot. "We have a great program planned with added money AQHA classes, Division High Points and much more. Of course everyone looks forward to the Auction on Saturday, which is an event in itself. It is a super opportunity to buy a breeding at a great price and one that can increase the value of your horse for years to come.
