THIS Cares... Again - 2nd Annual Trail Ride This Horse Is Silent Cares... is gearing up for their second fund raising trail ride "to benefit ill children in need in an equestrian environment." This trail ride will be held September 19-21 at the Natchez State Park in Wildersville, Tenn. The trail ride this year is for a boy named Hunter. Hunter is a five-year old boy diagnosed with Vater Syndrome, a disease which affects internal organs and causes external deformities. Hunter is missing a right kidney, has congenital scoliosis, a cyst on his spinal cord, and a toxic kidney. So far he has had seven surgeries before his sixth birthday and is expecting to undergo a kidney implant and to have a separate spine surgery which will leave him in a body cast and halo for eight weeks. Hunter's family is financially challenged by the demands of these surgeries and THIS has undertaken to help them. The goal for the trail ride is to raise $20,000. The three day trail ride will be held at Natchez Trace State Park near Wildersville, Tenn., September 19, 20, 21. Three types of trail rides will be held: an all day trail ride, led by Pollock Cupples; a gaited ride, led by Darrel Douglas; and a slow pleasure ride led by Bobby Jordan and Seth McDaniel. A ride donation of $8 per day or $15 for both days will be asked. Children under twelve may ride for half price, but must be accompanied by an adult. Campsites will be on a first-come basis and fees of $17 will be collected by State of Tennessee for those sites. A number of activities are planned surrounding the trail ride including live bands on Friday and Saturday nights, a hay ride Friday night, Silent Auction, and worship Services on Sunday morning. Drawings for genuine Billy Cook Western Saddles will also be held. THIS Cares... is a not for profit organization started by Larry Stuart of Holly Springs, Mississippi. The chief mission of the organization is "to benefit ill children in need in an equestrian environment." This is the second year for the organization to sponsor a child and family to help them meet their medical financial needs. Last year, Austin was the inspiration for the start of THIS Cares... The success of the ride has enabled Austin's family to achieve financial stability. Austin's cancer is in remission, but still has over a year's worth of weekly chemotherapy. For more information on the organization or the trail ride call Larry Stewart 662-851-4017.
