Summer Sale Sizzles Western Bloodstock broke an all-time Summer Spectacular auction record with the sale of a five-year-old mare for $185,000 and saw averages rise as much as 30 percent over last year's sale. The sale was held in Fort Worth, Texas in July. The top 10 selling horses averaged $69,350, while the top 20 averaged $46,575. The net sales on 226 head was $10,092 compared to last year where 210 averaged $8,800. "It was a very upbeat atmosphere," said Western Bloodstock's Ben Emison. "The bidding was even more active than during the Super Stakes Sales." DOC ALLEY, co-reserve champion of the 2002 Bonanza Non-Pro Derby and a finalist in the NCHA Open Futurity, Open Super Stakes and Non-Pro Derby, sold for $185,000 to Jack Silver and Sharon Lawrence of Pryor, OK. The 5-year-old Dual Pep daughter was consigned by Milt and Mary Bradford of Weatherford, Texas and sold bred to Smart Little Lena. LITTLE DANCER LENA, dam of NRCHA Open Snaffle Bit Futurity champion and 2002 NCHA Open Derby finalist Boonlight Dancer, brought a winning bid of $135,000 from Robert Curtis of Tampa, FL. The 14-year-old double registered AQHA/ APHA daughter of SMART LITTLE LENA was consigned by Roger Daly, agent for Fire Creek Ranch of Huson, MT. She sold in foal to HIGH BROW CAT and with an embryo by PEPTOBOONSMAL. CO ZACK, 2002 NCHA Limited Open Derby reserve champion, sold for $85,000 to Niangua River Ranch of Eldridge, MO. Bill Strohm, III of Clarksdale, MS consigned the 5-year-old ZACK TO WOOD. David Plummer of Fruit Heights, UT purchased the BOB ACRE DOC daughter TARI ACRE for $65,000 from Brewer Ranch of Weatherford, TX. Nine-year-old TARI ACRE, a 1997 NCHA Open Futurity finalist, was sold bred to CD OLENA with a CD OLENA colt at side.
