WTPC Members Shine At Horse Trials

By Talana Vogel

Two West Tennessee Pony Club members, Lawrence Hyde, 22, and Alana Grace Vogel, 10, brought home ribbons from two USEA horse trials. The first, Dunnabeck Horse Trials, was held in September in Carbondale, Illinois. The event is in its 11th year and is hosted by the Boskydell Pony Club. The two also competed at the Middle Tennessee Pony Club Horse Trials.

Lawrence rodeKiss and Tell, aka Amelia, a 14-year-old Thoroughbred mare who place 5th in the Novice division at Dunnabeck. Alana Grace, riding Splish Splash, a 13-year-old Appaloosa pony, placed 3rd at Dunnabeck, in a very competitive Beginner Novice Rider division that had 18 starters. At the Middle Tennessee Horse Trials in October, Lawrence finished third in the Novice division and Alana Grace finished fifth in the Junior Beginner Novice division.

Lawrence is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, majoring in Animal Science with an Agriculture Business minor.  Lawrence, a pony club member since 2002, holds a C-3 rating and Alana Grace, a member since 2007, is a D-3.
