February 11, 2013 - UT Extension will hold a Forage Weed Control Meeting at 7 pm in the C Wing of the Agricenter International in the Horticulture Room.  Dr. Neil Rhodes, UT Weed Science Specialist will discuss weed control in pastures and hay fields, plus perennial foxtail and the issues with suppressing it.  For more information contact Becky Muller at 901-752-1207 or or Jeff Via at (901) 465-5233 or

February 12-March 7, 2013 -UT Extension will hold an area Master Beef Producer Class in Hardeman County on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 pm-9 pm.  Producers that complete the Master Beef Producer Program have the opportunity to qualify for a $100 scholarship that will be applied toward your $200 enrollment fee.  This scholarship is provided through funding by the Tennessee Agriculture Enhancement Program.  To qualify for the scholarship, you must have a “Premise ID Number” as well as be a “Beef Quality Assurance” (BQA) Certified producer and must complete the Master Beef Producer Program.  To enroll in the Master Beef Producer Program, return the enrollment form and a check for $100 to:  UT Extension -Hardeman Co., P.O. April 16, 2013-UT Extension will hold a Forage Meeting, beginning at 5 pm, at Pitchfork Farms, 701 Fayette Corners Rd. in Somerville, TN.  The Mid-South Farmers CO-OP will be grilling hamburgers and hotdogs.  Dr. Gary Bates, UT Forage Specialist will discuss Bermuda and Teff Grasses.  For more information contact Becky Muller at 901-752-1207 or or Jeff Via at (901) 465-5233 or

May 4-5, 2013-  UT Extension, Dr. Jennifer Dunlap, and the American Humane Association will hold an Animal Emergency Services “Disaster Sheltering” 2-day seminar at the Agricenter.  This seminar is ideal for first responders, veterinarians, vet techs, pet owners and anyone who wants to know more about how to respond during a disaster and how to help your animals in a disaster. 

May 20-21, 2013- UT Extension will host an Advanced Equine Management Course at the Agricenter International in the C Wing Banquet Room from 5-9 pm Monday and Tuesday nights.  Dr. Bridgett McIntosh will discuss Small Acreage Management Practices. Greg Brann, State Grazing Specialist with the NRCS, will speak on grazing management, and Dr. Shawn Hawkins, UT Animal Waste Management Specialist, will discuss water quality and manure management on the farm. The cost of the program is $50 per person.  For more information contact Becky Muller at 901-752-1207 or
