Alana Grace Vogel and Splish Splash Earn the Blue!
Alana Grace Vogel, age 10, and her eventing partner, Splish Splash, a 13-year-old Appaloosa mare, brought home a blue ribbon at the River Glen Horse Trials, November 17-18, 2012. This trial is held each spring and fall in New Market, TN, just north of Knoxville. The venue is a beautiful facility nestled between two mountain ranges and a favorite horse spot for eventers and hunter/jumpers.
The pair competed in the Beginner Novice Junior division, which had 14 starters. It was a tough course and only 8 riders completed all three phases, with most eliminated on cross country for refusals. There were some rider falls.
Alana Grace and Splash started the event with an amazing dressage score of 26, representing one of the top scores in the entire show. They went on to jump the stadium course double clear- no rails down or time penalties, then sailed through the cross country course with ease. The team finished with only their dressage score.
After taking a short break, Alana Grace and Splash will return to Meadow Run Farm in Florence, AL to continue training with Jim Graham, who has been eventing for 30 years. He was a member of the 1994 Three-Day Team who rode at The Hague World Equestrian Games. Jim has also represented the USA at the Burghley and Rolex Kentucky CCI**** and CCI***, as well as Punchestown (Ireland), Fairhill CCI*** and Checkmate CCI***. Jim is a US Pony Club “A” Graduate, a past US Equestrian Team selector, an FEI “I” Judge, an USEF “R” Judge and a Technical Delegate.
Alana Grace is an active member of the West TN Pony Club and recently rated to a C-1 in horse management. She will complete her riding portion of the C1 rating in the spring. Pony Club clinics are also an important aspect of her training.
Alana Grace and Splash plan to complete in the U.S. Eventing Association Area 3 Championships in May, 2013 at Poplar Place, as well as at the American Eventing Championships (AECs) in September, 2013.
