All American Youth Barrel Race

All American Youth Barrel Race

The All American Youth Barrel Race, one of the biggest in the country, was held June19-22 at the Kirk Fordice Equestrian Center in Jackson, MS. This Barrel Race is for ages 19 and under, with over $28,000 in added money.

There we some good payouts!  An $8,000 payout went to finals 1D first place winner Max Chouset of Cut Off, LA riding VF Sporty Design with an impressive time of 13.932. Leah Holt from Byhalia, MS mounted on Cha Chi won the 2D with a 14.436 in the finals and took home a check for $6000. 3D finals went to Katelyn Albritton of Brooklyn, MS riding J-Lo with a time of 14.954 and $5000 in winnings. Courtny Lafferty from Caruthersville, Mo picked up the 4D win riding Tough With Honor for $4000. Courtney also won the 5D on her other horse Little Mo Skip, timing at 15.945 with a $925 payout.

The times throughout the barrel race were very fast. Almost all of the rides were under 15 seconds and even many of the ponies ran faster than 16. This shows just how good these young barrel racers and their horses are!
