Chukkers For Charity

The 17th annual Chukkers for Charity Polo Match and Car Show was held Sunday afternoon, September 7 at Riverview Farm in Franklin, TN. This year’s prestigious polo event included the popular car show and parade, the cabana decorating competition, petting zoo and stick horse race for the kids, and fine dining, spirits, and entertainment.  Between matches of the fast-paced polo action, patrons could shopat the Chukkers silent auction featuring jewelry, trips, restaurant gift certificates, original artwork, event tickets, and travel experiences.

This year’s theme is “Keep Calm and Ride On,” with two competing teams – Nissan Autoweek and Bendabout. The Autoweek team was comprised of Orrin Igram, Wesley “Whistle” Uys, Stevie Orthwein and James Armstrong. The Bendabout's team included John Walsh, host of “America’s Most Wanted,” Gillian Johnston, winner of the 2002 U.S.  Open, Julio Arellano, winner of the 2009 United States Polo Association Triple Crown, and Alec “Zulu” Scott-Barnes.

This year’s special guest polo player was Julio Arellano. He was born in Nicaragua in 1972, but raised in Wellington, Florida, where he started playing polo at Palm Beach Polo at the age of 9 with his father, Carlos. He and his wife, Meghan Murphy, and their three children, Agustin, 16, Lucas, 13, Hope, 10 all play polo. Julio currently holds a 9 goal rating.

His wins are numerous: the FIP World Cup in 1989 for USA; the 22 goal Sunshine League in Royal Palm Polo; the 22 goal Challenge Cup; 22 goal Sterling Cup; the Herbie Pennell, Joe Barry, Ylvasaker Cup; the Triple Crown in 2009; four US Opens; The Monty Waterbury for three years straight; the America Cup; the Skene Trophy three times; and the Susie Fagan and Music City Cup.

Hosts Lee Ann and Orrin Ingram welcomed hundreds of patrons to their Riverview Farm to enjoy a polo match, dinner, and silent auction. The annual event benefits The Rochelle Center and Saddle Up, two nonprofits that work with those with disabilities.
